Lambton Estate played host to the final event of the North East Harrier League 2019/20 season just prior to all athletics competition being suspended due to Corona virus. Set in the grounds of Lambton Castle and what used to be a former lion park in the 1970’s the course included some sharp descents, a meandering riverside trail, ‘heartbreak’ hill and a smattering of flag stones.
The North East Harrier League returned to Alnwick on leap day for what would normally be the final fixture of the 2019/20 season. On what turned out to be a generally sunny day after all the recent storms it was the green and gold of Wallsend Harriers who had a double celebration winning both the senior men’s and women’s race.
Calum Johnson followed on from his pre-Christmas Saltwell 10k win by taking the Sherman Cup by over a minute from (Gateshead Harrier team-mate Charlie McMillan. In the womens race Amy Fuller (Elswick Harriers) held off Catriona MacDonald (Morpeth Harriers) in a sprint finish for the Davison Shield.
